Spotlight News Round-Up: Happy After Holidays

Okay, so I took a bit of a unplanned blogging hiatus at the end of November and am trying to get back into the swing of things.

With doing Cinderella at Civic and the busy holiday taking up my time at work and elsewhere, I had little chance to focus my free time on this site (mostly because what free time I had was used up by sleeping, eating, and getting to destinations).

I hope this post makes up for some of that time off with a round-up of recent local theater developments.

  • Master Arts Theater had to change its winter youth show and postponed the dates accordingly. They will now present Charlotte’s Web on March 18-27 with auditions being pushed back to January 9 and 11.
  • In other Master Arts news, you can have your cake (or whatever they serve for dessert) and eat it too with a production of Sandra Fenichel Asher’s A Woman Called Truth on January 22 at 7 pm and January 23 at 2 pm. MAT is calling this “Dessert Theater” and it will take place in their annual dinner theater spot.  Tickets are $18.
  • Aspiring playwrights can have their work critiqued by the Grand Rapids theater elite–and maybe even the chance to see it performed–with Actor’s Theater’s annual “Living on the Edge” 10-minute play series now accepting submissions (scroll down for more info). You have until February 8 to ruminate on this year’s theme: Making Art/Making Money. All submissions are to be emailed to Kyle Amanda Dutkiewicz at kdutkiew@grcc.edu.
  • Circle Theater is accepting summer interns for 2010. It appears this is one of those rare opportunities where you don’t have to be a college student to apply. And they pay too!
  • Pigeon Creek Shakespeare company has added audition dates for their spring and summer shows, Hamlet, The Tempest, and Henry V. Come out January 23 and 24 at 1:00 pm to Dog Story Theater.
