Probably the biggest news to come out of the recent announcements for the upcoming 2009-2010 Grand Rapids community theater season is the inclusion of Rent on the calendar for November.

The joint Heritage Theater Group and Grand Valley State University production is sure to be a large draw for all the local actors hoping to work with a Broadway star (Manley Pope, who played Roger on Broadway is directing). Per a recent announcement on Facebook, local actors can begin signing up for audition slots on Monday, August 24. You can call (616) 331-2300 between 12:00 pm-5:00 pm, Mon-Fri or email lanejack@gvsu.edu for a 10-minute time slot.

What’s particularly unusual for auditions is that actors need to prepare 16 measures of a pop or rock song and not a traditional musical. In other words, auditions could prove to be a far more talented group than what you might see on an early episode of American Idol.

Auditions are Sept 10 from 4:00 pm-6:30 pm and Sept 11 from 6:00 pm-10:00 pm and will be held at the GVSU Allendale Campus in the Performing Arts Center in room 1506.
