More Praise for Actor’s Top Dog/Underdog

In case you need additional motivation to see Actor’s Theater’s opening production of the 09-10 season, Top Dog/Underdog, here is glowing praise from Kathy Boylon, a member of the Grand Rapids theater community who has worked backstage and on the boards for a number of local theaters. There’s still time to see this fabulous show tonight (October 2) and tomorrow night.

Top Dog / Underdog by Suzan-Lori Parks opened to a well- deserved standing ovation on Thursday, September 24, at Actors’ Theatre. This Pulitzer Prize winning play is a must-see for all serious theater lovers. I can’t tell you how lucky I feel to have a theater like Actors’ that is willing to put on “challenging and thought-provoking theater” here in Grand Rapids.

Marcus Woodswelch and Sammy Publes give powerful performances as brothers, Lincoln and Booth, so named by their father as a joke. These two actors are terrific! They are both former students at Grand Rapids Community College, veterans of Grand Rapids community theater and active in their craft in Los Angeles and Chicago.

The direction, set, and lights are perfect. This is Actors’ Theatre doing what it does best, “Bringing us the Best in Entertaining, Challenging, Innovative and Thought-Provoking Theater.” The show continues tonight, October 2nd, and tomorrow, October 3rd at 8:00 pm.

Tickets are still available at the Spectrum Theater box office by calling (616) 234-3946, visiting the website, or visiting the box office noon-5:00 pm, Monday-Friday, or until show time on show dates.
